About the Web Templates

The Missouri State University web templates may be used with any web development editor—they do not require or use FrontPage components.

Web Standards

The new templates comply with XHTML 1.0 Strict and Cascading Style Sheet standards, which helps ensure that the templates work on many platforms (including handheld devices). The standards also decrease download time and provide better accessibility.

The templates reference global and campus style sheets at http://www.missouristate.edu/styles —please maintain these references. You may also add a reference to a local style sheet for your site.

Template Guidelines

  • Heading 1 is reserved for the "Missouri State University" logo in the masthead.
  • Heading 2 is reserved for the page title.
  • Heading 3 and below may be used for headings within the body of the page.
  • The link to the Unit/Organization directly below the breadcrumb should be removed on unit/organization homepages.
  • The use of global navigation is discouraged. If you include redundant navigation on several pages be sure to include a method to skip redundant navigation.
  • Be careful not to drag the boundaries of the <div> tags. This will set a height/width that will cause a problem with the layout.
